The crash, that also caused a fuel leak, took place at 10:09 a.m., and closed the left and center lanes between Exits 10 and 9 near Darien, officials with the Department of Transportation said
Traffic has been backed up for several miles, causing motorists to wait more than an hour to reach the New York state line from Norwalk, a 16 miles distance.
A sand truck was on scene cleaning up the fuel spill and a street sweeper was behind to clean up the sand.
Motorists should expect delays until backed-up traffic can begin rolling again.
